Concluding Qatar visit, Foreign Secretary Bairagi returns home



FSKATHMANDU, Jan. 26 (Nepal Foreign Affairs)–Foreign Secretary Shanker Das Bairagi paid a courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al-Attiyah, at the latter’s office on Monday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press statement.

During the call on, views were exchanged on consolidating and expanding various aspects of bilateral relations and cooperation. They also shared views on the celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year.

Foreign Secretary handed over the letters from President Bidya Bhandari , Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa addressed to their respective counterparts. The Foreign Minister of Qatar said his country’s relations with Nepal were important and the relations would be further strengthened in the days to come, the MoFA said.

Earlier this morning, foreign secretary also paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Saleh Mubarak Al-Khulaifi, Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the State of Qatar.

During the meeting, a detailed discussion was held on matters pertaining to the Nepalese migrant workers in Qatar and future cooperation between the two countries in these areas.

Nepalese delegation held a meeting with Group Executive Director of the Qatar Foundation Eng. Jassim Mohamed A Telefat and discussed the desirability of establishing cooperation in the areas of education, research and community development between the two sides, the MoFA said.

Foreign secretary and the Nepali delegation had an interaction meeting with the NRN and Nepalese community members at the Embassy of Nepal in Doha on Sunday. The interaction was mainly focussed on promoting the welfare of Nepalese migrant workers and strengthening bilateral cooperation with Qatar in the areas of trade, investment, tourism, culture and education.

Head of the Central Asia, West Asia and Africa Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal Ramesh Prasad Khanal and Charge d’ Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Nepal in Qatar Mani Ratna Sharma, were present on the occasions.

The Embassy of Nepal in Doha also hosted a reception in honour of the Foreign Secretary and his delegation. Wrapping up a two-day official visit to Qatar, the foreign secretary returned home on Tuesday evening.
