CoAS Thapa conferred honorary rank of General of India



Nepal Foreign Affairs (KATHMANDU, 12 January 2019) – President of India Ram Nath Kovind on Saturday conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army to General Purna Chandra Thapa, the Chief of Nepal Army. 

Indian President Kovind conferred the honorary rank of General of the Indian Army on Nepal’s Army Chief Purna Chandra Thapa, according to the NA’s Public Relations Directorate. 

CoAS Thapa was conferred the rank insignia amidst a special function organized at the Rastrapati Bhawan in New Delhi, India. This is the tradition of exchanging honorary titles between the chiefs of Nepal and Indian armies’ since 1950. 

CoAS Thapa had left for New Delhi on Friday for a six-day official visit at the invitation of his Indian counterpart General Bipin Rawat. According to the Directorate, CoAS visited New Delhi based National Defence College.
