China wanted to see Nepal’s new constitution would be drafted on the basis of consensus, a visiting senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) said here Sunday.
Zhao Zhengyong, secretary of the CPC’s Shaanxi provincial committee, also wished for the timely promulgation of the new constitution, according to Agni Sapkota, a standing committee member of the United Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist), a major opposition party in the Himalayan country.
“The Chinese side has suggested we draft a new constitution on the basis of consensus among various political parties,” Agni Sapkota told Xinhua when talking about Zhao’s meeting with the party’s chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
Zhao has also met with Nepali Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and ruling party chairman KP Sharma Oli as well as other senior party leaders since he arrived in Nepal on Saturday.
During the meetings, Zhao reiterated China’s assistance in Nepal’s socio-economic development.
Zhao said that China is ready to work with Nepal on the basis of the nine prioritized areas of cooperation identified during Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Nepal last December.
