MCC not part of Indo Pacific strategy: Spokesperson Banskota

Nepal Foreign Affairs (KATHMANDU, 26 December 2019) – Government spokesperson Gokul Banskota has said that the ongoing debate on millennium challenge corporation (MCC) was only politically guided.

In a press meet organized to share latest Cabinet decisions here today, Information Minister Banskota argued that the MCC was not part of Indo-pacific Strategy. He further urged all not to talk on baseless issues as it was not connected with Indo Pacific Strategy (IPS).

Banskota clarified that there was no single point in MCC pact that says that Nepal will support US Military activities. He said that the grant to be provided by the USA through the pact will be utilized in infrastructure development and transmission line extensions.

On another note, he said that there was no meaning to take vote of confidence by Prime Minister with the departure of Socialist Party from the government.
