Nepal announcing Visit Nepal Year 2020 from British Parliament



Nepal Foreign Affairs (KATHMANDU, 4 November 2019) – Nepal will be using the forum of British Parliament for the publicity of Visit Nepal Year 2020.

Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai has already reached the UK in this connection and he will make announcement about the Visit Year from the British House of Lords (Upper House) on coming November 7, the Visit Year Secretariat stated.

Officials from the Secretariat and Nepal Tourism Board have accompanied the tourism minister. A special programme for the promotion of Visit Nepal Year is scheduled to take place at the British Upper House on November 7 on the occasion of annual World Travel Market (WTM).

WTM considered as the world’s biggest travel show formally kicked off today. The three-day event, Nepal’s tourism promotional stuffs and Nepalese cuisine will be exhibited. On the occasion, those British nationals with their contribution to the development and promotion of Nepal’s tourism will be honoured with the ‘The Himalayan Travel Award-2019’ and it remain as the major attraction of the event.

There is a schedule to appoint Joanna Lumley, British noted actress, author and activist; British politician Sandeep Kumar Verma of Indian origin and the Indian- born British successful businessman Gopichand Paramanand Hinduja the ‘goodwill ambassadors’ for the Visit Nepal Year 2020.

The British tour operators that have been sending highest number of tourists to Nepal for a long time will be awarded by Minister Bhattarai on the occasion. Likewise, certificate of appreciation would be distributed to those contributing for the tourism promotion of Nepal such as Steve Berry (Mountain Kingdom), Michael Wate (Aviara Travel) and Roberts Goodwin among others. The ‘Himalayan Award’ would be awarded to hotel entrepreneur Ramesh Arora, foreigners promoting Nepal’s tourism through their respective professions such as Marcus Cotton, Robin Marston and Colonel Jimmy Roberts.
