Nepal expresses condolence over loss of lives, property caused by recent floods in Chennai



timthumbNepal Foreign Affairs (Kathmandu, Dec. 4)–Nepal government on Friday expressed deep condolence over the loss of lives in Chennai of Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

“The Government of Nepal is profoundly grieved over the loss of lives and property caused by the recent floods in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, and expresses deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved families,” read a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs adding, “Its thoughts are with those who are still suffering extreme difficulties in their day-to-day life.”

The Ministry said that the people and the Nepal government stand by the people and the Indian government at this hour of tragedy.

According to BBC reports, more than 7,000 people have been rescued so far, but many are still stranded.

More than 260 people have died in the floods in the state after the heaviest rainfall in a century, the BBC report added. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited Chennai on Thursday, promised $150m (£99m) to the flood-hit Tamil Nadu.
