288 Nepali nationals rescued from Afghanistan



RSS (KATHMANDU, 18 August 2021) – A total of 288 Nepali nationals have been rescued from Afghanistan and airlifted to Kathmandu due to recent developments in Afghanistan.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a total of 288 Nepali nationals have so far been rescued from Afghanistan brought to Kathmandu, including 118 on Tuesday morning and 84 the same night and 61 this morning and 25 this afternoon. A working group formed under the coordination of the Heads of Central Asia, West Asia and Africa Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement after today’s meeting to complete the necessary procedures.

It is stated that the Holding Center managed by the Government of Nepal in Samakhushi has completed the process including for COVID-19 testing as per the health standards. The ministry said that more Nepali nationals rescued from Afghanistan are in the process of returning home. “296 Nepalis have registered their details on the web portal of the Department of Consular Services Department till 5 pm today. Of the registered, 16 Nepali nationals have been rescued and returned home,” the statement said.
