Army Chief Sharma leaves for UK



KATHMANDU- Chief of the Army Staff Prabhu Ram Sharma has today left for the United Kingdom on a six-day official visit at the invitation of the British Chief of the General Staff, General Sir Patrick Sanders.

Defence secretary Kiran Raj Sharma and Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Saroj Pratap Rana bid farewell to the Army Chief Sharma at the Tribhuvan International Airport. Prior to his departure, a troop of the army offered a guard of honour to the Army Chief at the Army Headquarters. During his stay in the UK, Sharma is scheduled to visit the Sennybridge Training Area in the northwest of the town of Brecon and also meet with the Nepali Army team participating in the Cambrian Patrol being conducted there.

During the visit, he will pay a courtesy call on his British counterpart General Sanders. Likewise, he will meet with the director of the British Army’s Land Warfare Centre, chiefs of the Royal College of Defence Studies and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and visit the Gurkha brigade. The entourage of the Army Chief includes Director General of the Military Academy Major General Santosh Kumar Dhakal and staff officers of the Army Chief.

The Army Chief Sharma is scheduled to return home on 14 October. Meanwhile, Chief of General Staff Lieutenant General Rana has been assigned to look after affairs of the Army in the absence of the Army Chief, according to the Nepali Army Directorate of Public Relations and Information.
