KATHMANDU – A seven-member team led by Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming reached Lomanthang of Upper Mustang to observe the Korala border point on Saturday.
Chief District Officer of Mustang Ajita Sharma said, “The Chinese ambassador has arrived in Mustang, but there is no detailed information about his visit.”
The Chinese ambassador arrived in Lomanthang for a three-day visit. There are five Chinese nationals in the team. They are scheduled to return to China via the Korala checkpoint today.
According to Tashinarbu Gurung, chairman of Lomanthang Rural Municipality, Ambassador Maoming visited the area to study the condition of the Korala border point.
The Chinese ambassador’s visit to Mustang and the Korala border point is considered significant in light of demands for easier cross-border trade, which has been largely disrupted by the recent Bhotekoshi floods in Rasuwa.
Following the closure of the Rasuwa and Tatopani border points, the Mustang Customs Office has been collecting Rs 300 million in revenue daily.
