CPN-UML 10th Congress elects Oli as President, Pokhrel as General Secretary, Central Committee holds Ist Meeting in Sauraha



Nepal Foreign Affairs (KATHMANDU, 1 December 2021)  – KP Sharma Oli has been reelected as the President of the CPN-UML, the largest party in Nepal.  He defeated Bhim Rawal with a huge margin. Oli received 1837 votes while Rawal received just 223 votes.

Similarly, Shankar Pokhrel, known as an ideologue within the party, unanimously elected General Secretary. Pokhrel was Chief Minister of Lumbini Province, who has successfully led the development of the province. No doubt, he is close aide of President Oli.

The  10th national congress of the party has elected 301-member central committee along with the 19 office bearers. The newly-elected central working committee of the party held its first meeting in Sauraha on Tuesday.  The meeting has thanked all extending cooperation in organizing the National Congress as well as to the erstwhile working committee.

Devi Gyawali, the central committee member who participated in the meeting, said that newly-elected party chair KP Sharma Oli on the occasion directed the party rank and file to work with dedication so as to scoop a single victory for the party in the upcoming three tiers elections. He committed to moving forward by further making the party stronger.

Gyawali said the party chair has called the next meeting of the central working committee for December 11 and 12. The UML 10th National Congress was inaugurated on November 26 in Narayangadh and it concluded Tuesday by electing the 301-member new working committee.
