YANGON, June 3 (Xinhua) — The High Representative for European Commission(EU) adopted a release of joint communication Friday that set out the EU’s vision for ambitious and forward looking engagement with Myanmar due to the country’s transition to next phase.
Fedrica Mogherini, High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of EU, said that EU will accompany the newly-elected government’s democratic path.
Moreover, EU will cooperate to strengthen democracy, good governance, rule of law, peace, national reconciliation and human rights, to tackle poverty and to boost trade and investment, said the official.
The Joint Communication also contained further more commitments: to work with the country’s government on human right concerns for Rakhine State, to support the implementation of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, to stimulate European business interest through the conclusion of an Investment Protection Agreement, to enhance cooperation with Myanmar as a member of ASEAN for strengthening the regional integration process and EU’s enhanced partnership with ASEAN.
