Foreign Minister in Dhaka to Attend the 6th Indian Ocean Conference



DHAKA – Minister for Foreign Affairs Narayan Praskash Saud arrived in Dhaka this afternoon to participate in the 6th Indian Ocean Conference being held on 12-13 May 2023.

Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh welcomed Minister and his delegation at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Later in the afternoon, Foreign Minister had a virtual conversation with Dr. A. K. Abdul Momen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh. On the occasion, the two ministers took stock of various aspects of Nepal-Bangladesh relations and agreed to work together to enhance cooperation in areas of trade, transit, investment, energy, education, and people-to-people exchanges, among others.

Foreign Minister also had a meeting with Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister for External Affairs of India. The two ministers expressed satisfaction over the excellent state of Nepal-India relations and discussed ways to further consolidate cooperation in the areas of trade, transit, connectivity, and hydroelectricity, among others.

Foreign Minister attended the inaugural session of the 6th Indian Ocean Conference followed by Cultural Soirée and Dinner hosted by the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina in honour of the visiting heads of delegations attending the Conference.

He is scheduled to address the plenary session of the Conference tomorrow morning. On the sidelines, he will also hold separate meetings with the heads of delegations of Japan, Singapore, and the United States.

Foreign Minister is accompanied by his spouse Ms. Jyotshna Adhikari Saud, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ram Prasad Subedi, and Personal Secretary to the Foreign Minister Khuman Thapa Chhetri.
