KATHMANDU- Foreign Secretary Bharat Raj Paudyal has said that Nepal-UK relation has been further consolidated in the past century. The past 100 years provided a strong foundation for the promotion of the bilateral ties, according to him.
During an exhibition and welcome programme organised by the Nepali Embassy in London and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) in collaboration with the British Library on Tuesday evening, the secretary said the Nepal-UK Friendship Treaty of 1923 added a new dimension to the bilateral relations.
He said the Treaty contributed to achieving a progress in various dimensions of bilateral relations including mutual cooperation and priorities, trade, investment and tourism, according to the Embassy of Nepal in London. Nepal-UK cooperation on multi-dimensional forum in regard with agenda of mutual interests has been further expanded, according to the secretary who applauded the cooperation of the British Library in protecting, archiving and digitalizing Nepal’s historic manuscripts, photos, monograph and other valuable artifacts.
In the event organised on the occasion of the centenary of the Friendship Treaty, historic documents, manuscripts, photos and other historic objects highlighting Nepal-UK relations were put on an exhibition. FCDO Minister of State Anne-Marie Trevelyan pledged to further strengthen the Nepal-UK century-long relations based on mutual cooperative and benefits. She said the UK’s assistance to Nepal’s trade and investment priorities would continue to help it achieve the sustainable economic development and get upgraded from the category of the least developed country, Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission and Spokesperson Ms Roshan Khanal said. Nepal’s Ambassador to the UK, Gyanchandra Acharya and British Library’s Head of Collections and Curation, Xerxes Mazda exchanged views on the essence of Nepal-UK relations and cooperation between the British Library and Nepali organisations.
