India, Nepal enhance bilateral ties

indexKATHMANDU, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) — Frequent exchanges of high-level visits between Nepal and India recently have helped enhancing bilateral ties, leaders and officials of both countries said.

Indian Army Chief General Dalbir Singh, in Nepal for a three-day visit, held talks with Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Saturday.

The Nepalese Prime Minister said Indian President Pranab Mukherjee’s recent state visit to Nepal was successful in terms of enhancing age-old ties between the two countries, according to a statement of the Prime Minister’s secretariat.

The Indian Army Chief said that the Indian Army will establish a new pension paying office at Butwal of western Nepal bordering India, aiming to facilitate pension distribution process to Nepali nationals retiring from the Indian Army.

The Indian Army Chief also called on Nepal’s Defense Minister Balkrishna Khad and discussed defense cooperation.

The two countries are currently holding the Surya Kiran “X” joint military exercises as an annual routine.
