India not neutral, is on side of peace: Modi’s message to Putin on Ukraine war

NEW DELHI (5 December 2025) – Prime Minister Narendra Modi told Russian President Vladimir Putin that India was not neutral and was on the side of peace in the Ukraine war, reiterating the stance that he told Donald Trump earlier this year. During their much-anticipated bilateral meeting in Delhi on Friday, PM Modi praised Putin as a visionary leader and underscored that this “is an era of peace”.

“India is not neutral. India is on the side of peace. This is the era of peace… I am fully confident that with the efforts being made in recent days, the world will once again return to the direction of peace,” PM Modi said as Putin sat beside him listening keenly.

During their meeting, the bonhomie between the two leaders, which has played a crucial role in fostering a robust strategic partnership between Russia and India, was visible. The leaders have met 19 times in the past 11 years.
