Source at the Foreign Ministry told that India and Nepal are closely working to fix the Indian President’s trip to Nepal before Chinese President Xi Jinping visits Nepal in mid October.

“The Indian President’s visit to Nepal is likely to take place in the third week of August if things go well as planned,” a top official at the MoFA said.

The Ministry of External Affairs of India has indicated the possibility of President Mukherjee’s trip to Nepal anytime soon in near future, on Friday.

“Look, we always remain open to high level exchanges between India and Nepal. In case a proposal is received for a visit by Hon’ble Rashtrapatiji to Nepal, it will certainly be given due consideration,” Official Spokesperson of the MEA, Vikas Swarup, told reporters in the Indian Capital New Delhi.

During his recent visit, Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa had urged the Indian side to arrange the visit of Indian Preisdent Mukherjee.

Earlier in June, Nepal had cancelled President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s visit to India recalling its ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhyay as response to Indian involvement in toppling the K.P Oli-led government.
