Nepal’s first Humanitarian Staging Area (HSA) has been launched at the Tribhuwan International Airport on Thursday.
Amid a function, Deputy Prime Minister Bamdev Gautam, who is also the home minister of the country, formally inaugurated the HSA at the TIA.
“The Humanitarian Staging Area will act as the main hub for airlifted and overland humanitarian assistance entering the Kathmandu Valley in case of emergency,” read a statement issued following the inaugural ceremony of the Humanitarian Staging Area.
The United Nations World Food Program (WFP), which has provided financial support to the Nepali government to this project, said in the press statement “The HSA also has the potential to serve as a hub for predictable rapid-onset seasonal disasters such as flooding that often occur annually.”
