Nepal Foreign Affairs (Kathmandu, 6 March 2019) – The profound relations between Nepal and South Korea needs to be linked with economic development, said speakers at a programme organised here Tuesday.
They were speaking at an interaction on ‘Nepalis in Korea and state of remittance” organised by the Ekyabadhata Prakashan Nepal.
Stating that attraction towards Korea is increasing in Nepal, they said that the two countries should collaborate for the development of Nepal.
Former Vice-chair of National Planning Commission Dipendra Bahadur Chettri said during 1956 both the countries had similar per capita income but it is 30,000 dollars for Korea and 1400 for Nepal now. Hence there are many things that Nepal can learn from Korea.
Speaking at the programme, CEO of the JB Bank of Korea Yong-Taek Lim shared that the number of Nepalis enjoying service from the Bank is on the rise and is looking forward to provide the services in Nepal as well. He also expressed the readiness to collaborate with Nepal’s banks and financial institutions.
Nepal Rastra Bank Executive Director Bhisma Raj Dhungana said nearly 40,000 Nepalis work in Korea while the rate of remittance is increasing in the country.
Editor of Ekyabadhata monthly magazine Meena Sharma said the interaction between officials from the two countries was aimed at bringing foreign direct investment into Nepal.
