Parliamentary committee directs Nepal’s gov’t to upgrade roads connecting China

KATHMANDU, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) — The Development Committee of the Legislature Parliament has directed the Nepal government to upgrade the roads linking the border points with China.

The parliamentary committee meeting held on Monday afternoon summoned the Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar and gave such direction.

The committee also directed the government to facilitate budget for all the necessary requirements to upgrade roads connecting Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi border points.

Tatopani border point has halted its operation owing to severe damage since the April 25 massive earthquake whereas Rasuwagadhi border point has recently resumed its operation from where Nepal has been receiving 1,000 metric tons of fuel from China.

In response, the minister said the up-grading of roads connecting Nepal and China has to avoid such crisis in the future.

During Monday’s meeting, he said, “If we had upgraded the roads connecting Nepal with the border points of China, we would not have to face the current crisis.”
