KATHMANDU- Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called for a significant increase in agricultural production. Speaking at the 13th General Assembly of the Agriculture and Forestry University in Baluwatar, he emphasized the importance of shifting from traditional, subsistence farming to modern, production-focused agriculture.
PM Oli highlighted the need for cooperatives, private sector involvement, and careful planning to boost productivity. He stressed the importance of identifying the best crops for specific lands and expanding markets for agricultural products.
He also urged the university to train skilled workers, such as agricultural scientists and engineers, to meet the country’s needs.
PM Oli noted that the economy will continue to struggle unless agricultural production increases. He suggested using vacant forest areas for agriculture and fruit cultivation to reduce the trade deficit and boost self-reliance.
