Veteran Nepali Congress leader Deep Kumar Upadhyaya and Activist Arjun Kumar Karki have been appointed as Nepal’s ambassadors to India and the USA respectively on Monday.
President Ram Baran Yadav appointed the duo on the recommendation of the government, said President’s Press Adviser Rajendra Dahal.
The Ambassador’s post had been lying vacant after the Jhalanath Khanal-led government recalled then ambassador Rukma Shamsher Rana, in August 2011. Uphadhyay, a many-time lawmaker and the former minister, hails from Kapilvastu district in southern Nepal.
While Nepal’s Embassy in Washington was headless for the past one and half years after then ambassador Shanker Sharma returned home completing his four-year tenure.
