KATHMANDU- Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal said Wednesday that Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s visit to India was under consideration, but its date had not yet been finalised.
Speaking to reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport after returning from the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Khanal said both Nepal and India wanted the visit to be “fruitful and result-oriented.”
The Indian government had formally invited Shah soon after the formation of his government, and preparations for the visit are under way. Nepal and India have also held discussions on possible deliverables and outcomes.
Outgoing Indian Ambassador to Nepal Naveen Srivastava also discussed the proposed visit with Shah during a farewell call on Tuesday. According to officials, the visit is likely to take place after the second week of November.
Khanal said he had also discussed the proposed visit with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar during his stay in New York.
Khanal also said Shah’s address to the UN General Assembly on September 24 had generated significant international interest, particularly over Nepal’s concerns about climate change and the impact of disasters on mountain communities.
