Subedi appointed as Nepal’s PR to United Nations



1379534_10152041465730572_786537772_nKATHMANDU, Aug. 8 (Nepal Foreign Affairs)–Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prakash Kumar Subedi, has been appointed as Nepal’s Permanent Representative to United Nations based in Vienna, on Monday. 

President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed Subedi for the post as per the recommendation of the Cabinet in accordance with Article 282 (1) of the Constitution. He will be the first Nepalese PR to UN based in Vienna. The 52-year-old Subedi was recommended for the post in April during K.P Sharma Oli’s Premiership. 

Mr. Subedi, who previously served in Moscow, Riyadh and Copenhagen in different capacities during his diplomatic career, is currently the head of the South Asia Division at the MoFA. He joined Foreign Service in July, 1988. 

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has forwarded ‘agreemo’ of designate seven Nepalese Ambassadors to respective host countries Pakistan, Brazil, Germany, Egypt, Belgium, Russia and United Kingdom.

Joint Secretaries Sewa Lamshal has been designated as ambassador to Pakistan, Tara Prasad Pokharel to Brazil, Ramesh Prasad Khanal to Germany, Jhabindra Aryal to Egypt, Lok Bahadur Thapa to Belgium, Rishiram Ghimire to Russia and Durga Bahadur Subedi to the UK. All of the designated ambassadors are from the Foreign Service.

Once the host countries approve the ‘agreemo’ of the designated ambassadors, the president will officially announce their appointments as per the tradition.
