Ten Nepalis from Ilam reportedly missing in Teesta river flooding



KATHMANDU- Ten Nepalis from Ilam have reportedly gone missing in the recent Sikkim disaster.

Preliminary information is that they are from Ilam municipality-9 and have gone missing in the Teesta River flooding in Sikkim since October 3. It is said they went Sikkim in connection of work and are not touch with their families since the incident.

According to Chief District Officer of Ilam, Shrawan Kumar Pokhrel, the missing individuals include Sen Bahadur Karki aka Sanu, Lakpa Sherpa, Naramaya Basnet, Khusi Basnet, Kumar Basnet, and others. As the CDO briefed, they have already received reports about the disappearance of Karki and Sherpa, while news about the missing of others was reported of late by media in Sikkim.

The area is presently unreachable by any means of available communications due to disruptions of telephone and electricity services since the disaster. The CDO said that the district administration is in regular contact with security forces in Sikkim, and Indian authorities have launched rescue efforts for the missing people.
