Thailand has made further contribution for the earthquake victims in Nepal.
During a programme organized at the Government House in Bangkok on Thursday, Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha, handed over an amount of 4 million US Dollars for Nepal’s earthquake victims, Nepal Embassy in Thailand said in a press release.
Out of that amount, an amount of one million USD was handed over to Nepal’s Ambassador to Thailand KhagaNathAdhikari as the contribution to the Government of Nepal; and one million USD each to the representatives of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), World Health Organisation (WHO), and United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).” All of the money will be used for the relief of Nepal’s earthquake victims. It may be noted that the Royal Thai Government had made an immediate contribution of 200 thousand USD on 28 April,” the embassy said in its release.
On the occasion, Prime Minister of Thailand reiterated his condolences to the Government and the people of Nepal, and stated that Thailand stands with the Nepalese people at this hour of difficulty. He also urged international organisations to play more active role; and requested international community, especially the big powers, to assist poor and developing countries so as to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor.
Similarly, the Nepalese Ambassador expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to the Prime Minister, Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand for their generous contribution and support. He also expressed hope for cooperation from Thailand in the reconstruction and rehabilitation phase as well.
