UML urges Chinese Minister to take BRI-related projects forward



RSS (KATHMANDU, 27 March 2022) – The CPN (UML) has urged the Government of China for taking forward the BRI-related projects like railway, irrigation, education and health.

UML Chair KP Sharma Oli urged this during a courtesy meeting the visiting China’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and State Councilor Wang Yi paid on him today. According to party leader Rajan Bhattarai who was also present on the occasion, the party requested China for its facilitation regarding the smooth return of Nepali students studying in various Chinese universities and who had to come to Nepal due to the COVID-19 to China.

Likewise, the party thanked the Chinese Government for its support to Nepal to response COVID-19 pandemic, urging Chinese side for the regular operation of Tatopani and Rasuwagadhi check points along the Nepal-China border. The Chinese minister responded the party’s call positively and said they were ready to cooperate with Nepal for its development and prosperity, assuring of contribution to undertake BRI-related projects and to regularize them.

Party senior vice chair Ishwor Pokhrel and general secretary Shankar Pokhrel were among those accompanying party Chair Oli during the meeting. Wang, who is on the three-day visit to Nepal beginning from Friday, had paid a courtesy call on President Bidya Devi Bhandari today and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on Saturday evening.
