UN Resident Coordinator hails 16-point pact

Kathmandu, 10 June (Nepal Foreign Affairs) : The international community has welcomed the spirit of unity that the Nepali political leaders have displayed in reaching a 16-point pact on a new constitution.

“This is a remarkable achievement, especially since it was accomplished during a difficult period following the major earthquakes of April and May,” the UN resident coordinator in Nepal, Jamie McGoldrick said in a press statement on Wednesday.

McGoldrick said that the agreement is a significant step forward in the peace process and towards the completion of the foundational document that will guide the country’s future development.

“The international community encourages Nepal’s political forces to redouble efforts to complete the constitution drafting process in the spirit of compromise and the broad aspirations of the Nepali people,” the press statement added.

The international community also reaffirmed its support to the peace process and reconstruction in Nepal.
